  • Last surviving indigenous herd of Red Deer in Ireland

  • Continuous existence in the Killarney valley for over 4,000 years

  • Currently we estimate that the population within KNP is 700 approximately (500 in lowlands. 200 in uplands)

  • 4 Japanese Sika deer were introduced to Killarney in 1865

​

  • Population is now 600 approximately

  • The Sika deer population in KNP is of international genetic conservation interest and possibly the purest population in the world
